As we listened to Jolene Brackey share ways to enhance moments with a loved one with Alzheimer’s and create moments of joy, several things stand out as being ultimately important when relating to a friend of family member with the disease.
- You cannot control the disease; you can only control your reaction to it.
- Regardless of whether it’s an Alzheimer’s sufferer, a senior, or kids, we often feel like we have to have perfect days or weeks, but sometimes we only need to create perfect moments. Those perfectly wonderful moments can last for days or weeks and can even linger for a lifetime.
- “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” –Maya Angelou
Regardless of the individual situation, we are in charge of how we respond. We can create moments of joy for ourselves and for our loved ones.
